Basement Waterproofing

Complete Preservation are proven basement and cellar waterproofing specialists, whether you need a sprayed system a gravity drainage system or a cavity drained membrane to include sump pumps and alarms we cover it all.

Property owners are now more than ever carrying out a cellar-basement-vault conversions to their properties. This can add considerable value to the property and can create bright additional offices, cinema rooms, play rooms, bedrooms and reception rooms. Your first call should be to a qualified basement waterproofing specialist company who is a member of the Property Care Association.

A survey can then be carried out to design a basement waterproofing - system to deal with any ingressing water that will have an insurance backed guarantee. After our detailed inspection and meeting with you we will then produce a survey report and drawing detailing our findings along with all the costs associated with the basement works.

If you are looking for a complete basement conversion we can carry out the complete job from the basement waterproofing, qualified electrician, qualified heating engineer through to final decoration.

Our preferred method for our all our waterproofing is the cavity drained membrane but we also use cementitious tanking products to complement the waterproofing system where necessary on flat soffits, lift shafts and externally to retained slabs and ring beams.

Do you know what BS8102 2009 means?

This is the British Standard code of practice for protection of structures against water from the ground. It is advisable that all basement waterproofing must comply to this.

GRADE BASEMENT USAGE PERFORMANCE LEVEL
1 CAR PARKING; PLANT ROOMS (EXCLUDING ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT); WORKSHOPS SOME SEEPAGE AND DAMP PATCHES TOLERABLE, DEPENDENT ON USE
2 WORKSHOPS AND PLANT ROOMS REQUIRING A DRIER ENVIRONMENT;RETAIL STORAGE AREAS NO WATER PENETRATION ACCEPTABLE, BUT DAMP AREAS MAY BE TOLERABLE
3 VENTILATED RESIDENTIALAND WORKING AREAS, INCLUDING OFFICES, RESTAURANTS, LEISURE CENTRES, ETC NO WATER PENETRATION ACCEPTABLE. VENTILATION/AIR MAY BE REQUIRED

Forms Of Construction

TYPE A (barrier protection) structures have no integral protection against water penetration, and rely totally on a waterproofing membrane to keep water out. Type A structures may be constructed out of masonry or concrete. If a waterproofing membrane was included during construction, it may be found internally but on older structures it is more likely to be found on the outside of the structure, or sandwiched between two skins of concrete.

TYPE B (structurally integral protection) structures require the structure itself to be constructed as an integral water-resistant shell. They will usually be constructed out of reinforced concrete to an appropriate design code such as BS 8110 OR BS 8007, which gives guidance on the grade of concrete to be used and the steel spacing.

TYPE C (drained protection) structures incorporate a drained cavity within the basement structure. There is a permanent reliance on the cavity to collect ground water entering through the fabric of the structure, and direct it to drains or a sump for removal by drainage or pumping.

This is a typical basement waterproofing system including base drains and pumps.

It is very important a waterproofing specialist who is qualified designs a long term basement waterproofing system with a Insurance backed guarantee. We have seen many failed systems where the base drains and sumps have not been maintained, and from poor workmanship and detailing. We have even seen the membrane installed the wrong way round!
